Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage lean pork, chicken, or turkey sausage all work well
  • 1 ½ cups almond flour
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the sausage, almond flour, shredded cheese, egg, and baking powder. Mix everything together until the ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to portion the mixture. Roll it into small balls about 1 inch in size, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden on the outside and fully cooked inside.
  • Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Allow the sausage balls to cool completely before storing them. Place them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
For longer storage, freeze them for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 350°F until heated through.
  • The sausage mixture can be prepared and shaped into balls one day in advance. Store them covered in the refrigerator until ready to bake. If baking directly from the fridge, add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • If needed, dairy-free shredded cheese can be used instead of regular cheddar.
  • These sausage balls taste great when served warm with dipping sauces such as honey mustard, spicy Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, or Chick-Fil-A style sauce.
